Hemodyne's second product, the BioHemostat, is a
low-cost flexible dressing that is expected to replace the tourniquet
as the standard of treatment for bullet and other puncture wounds.
Inserted into a wound, the BioHemostat's proprietary polymers absorb over
1,000 times their weight in blood within 180 seconds. As a result of
this rapid expansion, BioHemostat creates backpressure at the source of
the bleeding, quickly causing the bleeding to stop.
